Matzerath's News

In what was probably an ill-advised experiment, I wanted to try a Kickstarter before every old school game developer took up space with their retro-hip money-making extravaganzas, so I've been trying to fund development for Spike: A Love Story Too, sequel to a game made popular on Newgrounds itself.

It's gone well, but it's been a major chore just to get halfway to my meager goal. The theme is a hard sell, to be sure, but I at least managed to climb the charts. Strangely, making Bob Ross an in-game character brought in the bulk of my pledges.

Look if you wanna, I'm not fishing for moola as much as sharing the madness. It'll end on late Saturday/early Sunday, and we shall see what we shall see. It's been nuts, I'll say that much, and will share a post report on it all afterward. Spike will be made one way or the other -- but maybe later than sooner. And I've learned a lot about Kickstarter in the process, which will likely lead to another, even stranger attempt later in the year! Lord British will probably have his Kickstarter up by then.

I made a Kickstarter earlier this month for a sequel to Spike: A Love Story ... this game!
Spike: A Love Story
Yes, a sequel. But how, you crazy dumbshit, you may ask. Well, while keeping the main theme, I plan to add as many modes as funding will allow me to cram in there. Saturday Morning Cartoon Mode! Edward Gorey Mode! Atari 2600 Mode! Also, the game will run on a random seed, which you can change yourself if you want to play a certain sequence again. And now you can play as the red-haired guy! And local co-op for lovers!
Check it out here, if you wish:

Thank you for your attention!

I wanted to thank everyone that played my new game -- even those that thought it was a giant bubbling pile of diarrhea basking in the noonday sun.
Sometimes when you release a game, you find a magical response to it somewhere on the internet. This time, I was pleased to discover some guy posted a four-part series on Youtube about how he totally sucks at playing 'Leave Cthulhu Alone'. He gets better after a few episodes, but I think he may have now, sadly, permanently rage-quit. I respect his dedication, though, as well as his staunch refusal to read any of the cut-scene text, which would have given him at least a few tips and instructions on how to beat the game. Enjoy:

The website Guidology wrote a review about the pros and cons of smashing a little guy trying to run under you:

I like the screenshots!

Thank you to everyone who has played my new game! I have been on Newgrounds since, um, a little before the turn of the century. Mostly I've made sketchy little cartoons, though I've branched out of late to get into the game-making side of things. Spike is my second major attempt -- Leapy Louie Groundskeeper was the first. I love Leapy Louie but I really had no idea what i was doing at that time, as opposed to kinda/sorta knowing what I'm doing (maybe) now.
If any of you oldsters out there STILL want to see a new 'Grim Reaper Show', let me know! I crumble under pressure! And if you want a new 'El Nakedo', well, um, heh heh.

And if any of you are wondering -- I'm EIGHTY-FIVE years old!!! Or something like that. Maybe a little younger. But not much.
