Matzerath's News

Hello all! Thanks to those of you that played and rated 'Misadventure'! It was a pretty weird experiment, making fun of games that existed before many of you were born, played on tube-based televisions in stucco-walled apartments while people disco danced in the streets. But I'm happy with the reaction! I WAS hoping for more of a religious backlash, but whatever.
This was made during one of the roughest times of my life. Getting it out there sorta closed the door on that period, and though I still have a gaping hole to crawl out of, it really helps to focus on people giving praise, hatred, bug-reports and complaints about old-timey game controls.
The bad times for me have lasted several years, really -- but it was during that time that I got back into programming, and it soon became a major obsession/distraction, and Tom Fulp and Newgrounds, as they have been for years, were major parts of this new focus. Now I feel I've boosted my skills considerably, though with friggin' technology changing practically every day it's a constant fight to stay up-to-date. Friggin' progress! Gettin' too old for this shit!
Anyway, as I've stated previously, if I can do this stuff, you all can. Go make things! Make a video-game, make a board-game, make giant phalluses out of tin foil with a Jacob's Ladder crackling between them.
My motto: There's nearly infinite bad ideas for video-games out there. Just gotta make as many as I can!

P.S. I just discovered there are almost a hundred Let's Plays for 'Orange Roulette.' That's fucking scary.

I hope you like it! Spikey Too is an ongoing project -- it's a big boy, hopefully it runs OK for most of you! Waiting in the wings are other silly modes that are coming together, strange and horrifying things; Spikey things.
My plan: Several of these will be released here as solo game posts, for the yucks. Eventually this is all gonna be compiled into one big gargantuan monstrosity! Yes!
So I'll keep you posted on developments, AS THEY HAPPEN.
Love,
Matzerath

So while working on my sequel to Spike: A Love Story, I have a few other projects I'm also finishing up. The first of these is Orange Roulette.
These side games are also great for testing out some new animation techniques! And for anyone interested, the gun in the game is a simulated six-shooter, using an array to truly move the 'bullet'. I was even weird enough to simulate the cylinder 'spin', as well -- it's not just a random number pick.
And I'm pretty sure there's no previous 'russian roulette' game that has a story with an ending. If anyone can prove me wrong, go for it! I probably am!

In what was probably an ill-advised experiment, I wanted to try a Kickstarter before every old school game developer took up space with their retro-hip money-making extravaganzas, so I've been trying to fund development for Spike: A Love Story Too, sequel to a game made popular on Newgrounds itself.

It's gone well, but it's been a major chore just to get halfway to my meager goal. The theme is a hard sell, to be sure, but I at least managed to climb the charts. Strangely, making Bob Ross an in-game character brought in the bulk of my pledges.

Look if you wanna, I'm not fishing for moola as much as sharing the madness. It'll end on late Saturday/early Sunday, and we shall see what we shall see. It's been nuts, I'll say that much, and will share a post report on it all afterward. Spike will be made one way or the other -- but maybe later than sooner. And I've learned a lot about Kickstarter in the process, which will likely lead to another, even stranger attempt later in the year! Lord British will probably have his Kickstarter up by then.

I made a Kickstarter earlier this month for a sequel to Spike: A Love Story ... this game!
Spike: A Love Story
Yes, a sequel. But how, you crazy dumbshit, you may ask. Well, while keeping the main theme, I plan to add as many modes as funding will allow me to cram in there. Saturday Morning Cartoon Mode! Edward Gorey Mode! Atari 2600 Mode! Also, the game will run on a random seed, which you can change yourself if you want to play a certain sequence again. And now you can play as the red-haired guy! And local co-op for lovers!
Check it out here, if you wish:

Thank you for your attention!

I wanted to thank everyone that played my new game -- even those that thought it was a giant bubbling pile of diarrhea basking in the noonday sun.
Sometimes when you release a game, you find a magical response to it somewhere on the internet. This time, I was pleased to discover some guy posted a four-part series on Youtube about how he totally sucks at playing 'Leave Cthulhu Alone'. He gets better after a few episodes, but I think he may have now, sadly, permanently rage-quit. I respect his dedication, though, as well as his staunch refusal to read any of the cut-scene text, which would have given him at least a few tips and instructions on how to beat the game. Enjoy:

The website Guidology wrote a review about the pros and cons of smashing a little guy trying to run under you:

Thank you to everyone who has played my new game! I have been on Newgrounds since, um, a little before the turn of the century. Mostly I've made sketchy little cartoons, though I've branched out of late to get into the game-making side of things. Spike is my second major attempt -- Leapy Louie Groundskeeper was the first. I love Leapy Louie but I really had no idea what i was doing at that time, as opposed to kinda/sorta knowing what I'm doing (maybe) now.
If any of you oldsters out there STILL want to see a new 'Grim Reaper Show', let me know! I crumble under pressure! And if you want a new 'El Nakedo', well, um, heh heh.

And if any of you are wondering -- I'm EIGHTY-FIVE years old!!! Or something like that. Maybe a little younger. But not much.
